Traveler entered in the Best Indie Book Awards 2013

Traveler - original cover

I’ve always been a little wary of entering these competitions, but now that the Traveler in Black and White has some nice reviews on both Amazon.com and Amazon UK, and it qualifies, I thought I’d have a go.  The entry fee is only $20 after all.  That’s a big slice of my royalty payment this year so far, but since I’ve recovered some tax on it, I might as well invest it in my books!  That’s me justifying spending money, by the way.  I feel I need to.

The first phase will be some reviewers sifting through the first few pages (the sample amount, basically). If they like it, it will go through to the semi-final stage, where it will be read in full by someone. The semi-finalists will be announced on July 1st. The top five finalists will be announced on September 1st.  That’s 5 for each of 8 categories – I’ve entered it in scifi/fantasy, as there isn’t a middle grade or children’s book category.  Heck, I should have suggested they add one for next year in the space for ‘improvements’ on the entry form.  Shucks! The winners of each category are announced on October 1st.

I just hope they like it enough to get through the first stage.  That would be awesome.  Mariusz and Hugo would approve!

If you’re interested, you can see the full details here.  Entries close 1st May.

Trilogy revised and updated

I’ve been working on the Princelings of the East – The Trilogy, enlarging the font one size so that it is now 468 pages long –  15% thicker but still manageable!  I’ve taken out the page on Victor’s Story and updated the teasers for Traveler and Talent Seekers.  And – in response to some comments – I’ve added some pictures of Fred, George, Victor and Hugo at the back, just before the Biography page.

One problem I had was the pricing.  I wanted to put this into wider circulation, but to do so I would have had to raise the selling price to $16.15 from $13.99.  I felt that was too much.  What do you think?  I have been considering making each of the books available in paperback, and maybe that would be more worthwhile, as they would be cheaper to produce, being thinner.  I don’t know how much you are prepared to pay for a paperback for a 10-14 year old, even one with three stories in it.   Any feedback would be welcome.

The Princelings of the East – The Trilogy is available at Amazon or our estore.  The three books are included in the one volume with their illustrations and covers (in greyscale) to give a 468 page paperback.  It looks lovely!

Coming soon – The Talent Seekers

The Talent Seekers, book 5 in the Princelings series, is coming together – the description is now online here and the chapter illustrations are gradually being added here.  The draft covers give a great feel of mystery with that overall stamp of  a Princelings book.

I haven’t got a date for you yet, and you’ll see the cover here first.  Keep watching, or sign up for email notification of new posts!
