Jemima Pett is taking part in Camp NaNoWriMo, an international writing challenge open to all authors aged over 13, any genre, published or just starting out. She will be aiming to complete 50,000 words of her new novel, provisionally entitled The Way West, during August. That’s just over 1600 words a day.
NaNoWriMo stands for National Novel Writing Month and is run by a charitable organisation based in the USA. The August event is meant to give people the spirit of a summer camp, with participants being grouped into ‘cabins’ so they can give each other support and encouragement.
The Way West is the story starring Humphrey, whom we met in the Prologue of The Princelings and the Lost City. It starts some months after he escaped from Arbor, avoiding the fate accorded to young men in the totalitarian regime there. Humphrey has a number of special talents but no social skills. The book will also take us to parts of the Realms we haven’t been to before (in fact mention of them was edited from the second edition of Pirates to improve the first two chapters).
