If you enjoy colouring, why not download one or more of the pictures to colour in of Fred and George, my Princelings heros, and Mariusz of Castle Hattan, here.  My favourite is the one of Fred and George in the plane. Save them to your device and print out on A4 or letter paper.

More planes (George starts inventing them after he gets introduced to them in book 3). A flying boat turns up in book 6, Bravo Victor.  Victor is charged to go looking for George in the Rhinelands, and help foil a dastardly plot in the process.  It’s a great read for the budding inventor, business guru, smuggler or entrepreneur in your family!

That is the prize in a Goodreads Giveaway, open to Goodreads members worldwide and open throughout May.  Closes 31st May, midnight Pacific Time.

What now for the Princelings of the North?

You may not have realised, but I had plans for Dylan and Dougall, thinking of them as my Princelings of the North.  They have appeared in the BookElves Anthologies Volumes 1 and 2, of course, and Dylan’s book is available as a free short ebook from Smashwords (and only from Smashwords – see the link at the bottom of this page).

I had half a mind to release Dougall’s in the same way, although it is shorter, and will need chapter illustrations added.  I also sometimes think of writing some more of their adventures and then maybe putting them together in one larger volume.  There is another story, one that I wrote for an A to Z Challenge on my blog a few years back, which was X Marks the Spot.  In it, Dylan finds a map in a bottle washed up on the shore….  it didn’t get as far as finding who put the map in the bottle, but I know who that is, and I know why, and why he is where he is.  I have plans for this to emerge during one of the next two books, so that Dylan and Dougall sweep down from the North and cause mayhem in the quiet and pleasant Realms.

I’m still not sure which way to go with this one.  You may have already seen that I lost the real guinea pigs this winter, Dougall just before Christmas and Dylan in February.  It’s very lonely without them, even though the rest of my guinea pigs do a grand job of trying to make up for them.  As with the other boys, there seems to be a time when I can’t write about them once they’ve gone, and then another time when I have to write about them.  I’m lucky, I have their characters on paper (or ebook) for all time.

Anyway, for now I’m not far away from getting down to book 7 in the Princelings of the East series, and I expect I’ll find out when, where and whether Dylan and Dougall fit in it or not when I start writing.  But I thought you’d like to know.

Plans for 2016

This time last year I suddenly started writing book 7.  It wasn’t really scheduled, in fact I knew what I really ought to be doing was editing the first in my other series.  But the story had come to me, and needed to be written – at least enough to get the idea down on paper.  Okay, in my computer.  The strange things was that the Willoughby the character is based on passed away suddenly (and shockingly) while I was writing it.  I’d woken up with this urgent need to get on with it, then afternoon came, and news from New York that the guinea pig had gone.  I carried on writing his story for the rest of the month, until I got to the point where I needed to stop and plan.

Most of the rest of 2015, I was busy with other projects but thinking of Willoughby’s story.  I realised that I really have to write the final book in the series as well to make sure it all comes together.  I make notes every now and then.  I spot things I want to include.  Characters drop in and leave again.  I drop teasers onto this website for you.  I was too busy to get on with the book.

But once I’ve published the Perihelix, I’ll be back to writing the Chronicles of Willoughby the Narrator – and drafting the final book in the series, provisionally called Princelings Revolution.  At one time I had a book in mind called the Chronicles of Castle Marsh, but it turned into Willoughby’s book in order to have a proper protagonist adventure/mystery – which is what the others are, really.  Together the two final books should do what I was thinking of for The Chronicles of Castle Marsh.

The big question is… how can Fred and George make good on their promise to Hugo at the end of Book 1?
